Uttarakhand

Uttarakhand, a state in northern India crossed by the Himalayas, is known for its Hindu pilgrimage sites. Rishikesh, a major centre for yoga study, was made famous by the Beatles’ 1968 visit. The city hosts the evening Ganga Aarti, a spiritual gathering on the sacred Ganges River. The state's forested Jim Corbett National Park shelters Bengal tigers and other native wildlife.

Till date it is not very well known for the textiles hence our intervention here lead us to some wonderful discoveries.

Case of Missing Weavers

The organisation 'House of Weavers' is run by three partners divided between Delhi and Dehradun. Their agenda is to revive almost extinct communities of weavers in Uttarakhand. We commission them to weave special fabrics for our made-to-measure jackets. Given the geographical location of the state, cotton and wool are available in abundance. Silk too is traded in and used in blends with cotton and wool to add value and lustre to the fabrics.
